Johnny Damon is a retired American professional baseball outfielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for a total of 17 seasons. During his career in MLB to his retirement, Damon played for the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians.

Damon played high school baseball at Walker Jr. High School, before continuing his game at Dr. Philips High School in Orlando. In 1992 when he was in his senior year, his performances earned him the top high school prospect in the country by Baseball America, was named to USA Today’s High School All-America team and was the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year.

While attending Dr. Philips High School, Damon ran track where he was a runner up in the 200m dash in his senior year. He also played football in high school, suffering his first ever concussion after he was hit by Warren Sapp.

Damon’s father an American of Croatian and Irish descent was a staff sergeant in the United States Army who was stationed in Thailand. His mother immigrated into the United States from Thai.

He is an army brat, having moved to several posts including Okinawa, Japan and West Germany before his father was discharged from the Army. The family then settled in Orlando, Florida, when Damon was in pre-school.

Damon attended Walker Jr. High School where he played high school baseball begore moving to Dr. Philips High School in Orlando. During his senior year, he put in one of the best performances which earned him rated the top high school prospect in the country by Baseball America, was named to USA Today’s High School All-America team and was the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year.

Although he was good at baseball, Damon also tried other sports. In his senior year at Dr. Philips, Damon was runner up in the 200m dash. He also played football, suffering his first concussion in the hands of Warren Sapp.

Damon was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the first round, 35th overall pick in the 1992 MLB draft. After he signed, he played in the minor leagues for the Wichita Wranglers for three seasons before making his MLB debut on August 12, 1995.

He starred for the Royals from 1995 to 2000 before he was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 2001, where he played for only a season before been shipped out to the Boston Red Sox. With the Sox, he played from 2002 to 2005.

After his time with the Sox came to an end, Damon joined the New York Yankees from 2006 to 2009. He continue to progress in the game. He had one season each with the Detroit Tigers (2010), the Tampa Bay Rays (2011) and the Cleveland Indians (2012).
