He was born on April 10, 1966, in Columbus, Nebraska. Brad played Defensive Line at the University of Arizona and was drafted by the New York Giants in 1989 and also played for the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV.

Brad William Henke retired from professional football in 1994, following repeated injuries, which required 6 ankle surgeries. Henke began acting in 1994, starting with commercials. He appeared in October Road, Around June, The Amateurs, World Trade Center, In the Valley of Elah, Choke, Sherrybaby, Must Love Dogs, and Fury.

His television career includes roles in Arliss, ER, Dexter, Lost, Justified, The Office, Orange Is the New Black, Sneaky Pete, and MacGyver. Henke is best known for his role in Orange Is the New Black as Desi Piscatella, a gay corrections officer at Litchfield Federal Penitentiary which won him an award at the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble.

The award-winning actor died in his sleep on November 28, 2022, at the age of 56, however, the cause of his has not yet been given. However, in an Instagram post on May 15, 2021, Brad indicated that he had a 90% blockage of his artery and in another post on June 29, 2021, he revealed that, he had 2 stents of his heart, spleen, and half of his pancreas gone to remove a golf ball sized tumor.

The late Brad William Henke stood at a height of 1.93 m and had a weight of 132 kg. At the time he died, he had an estimated net worth of about $2 million
