Andrés was appointed to run the kitchen at Jaleo, a new tapas restaurant in Washington, DC, in 1993. He went on to help the restaurant owners open other restaurants, including Oyamel and Café Atlantico, over the years. Andrés launched his “minibar” concept at the later location, which consists of serving his most inventive small meals.

Andrés gained popularity in the United States as a result of the success of his restaurants. He used his newfound fame to establish his own culinary show, “Vamos a Cocinar,” in 2005. The following year, he released his first book, “Tapas: A Taste of Spain in America.” Andrés founded ThinkFoodGroup with Robert Wilder in 2006, and the pair has since developed restaurants in Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas, and Puerto Rico. WCK has given meals to nations such as Ukraine, Cambodia, Zambia, Uganda, Peru, Nicaragua, Cuba, and the United States since its inception. Andrés and the group emerged as leaders in disaster assistance efforts in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria in 2017. He and World Central Kitchen were later the topic of Ron Howard’s documentary film “We Feed People,” which was released in 2022.
